If you have come here expecting Tangosynthesis and found Jivebeat Tango, don't worry. You are in the right place. Same people, same tango, same approach... just a new name that hopefully more people will remember.
If you look beyond the dramatic performances, the sexy reputation, and the vintage South American music, you will find a dance style like no other. Versatile, creative, fun, modern, and requiring no great physical fitness or flexibility, tango may well be the most adaptable and rewarding dance style ever to emerge.
Tango is a partner dance between two people that changes to reflect your mood. It can be flirtatious and sexy, dramatic and close, or fun and informal. You get to choose how you dance, and that can change from one dance to the next.
From its earliest days, Tango has always been a dance of multiple personalities. Slow and flowing, fast and rhythmic, it can adapt to different moods and speeds even within the same song. And yet through all that versatility the same steps and techniques are used in everything.
Tango is often described as a fundamentally simple dance as there are no complex step sequences to learn or choreography to remember. Simple, however, does not mean easy, and it can take time to unlock the challenges that this dance will set.
But that journey of exploration will teach you as much about your own body as it does about tango, and you will soon start to feel its influence everywhere.
Our teaching approach looks past the mystique and concentrates on the kineseology and fundamental principles of how tango works - what we are calling naked tango - leading you to discover a whole new language of movement and physical connection.
So join us and discover Tango! Your body and spirit will thank you!
Over the years, Graham has learned how to dance tango from many top Argentine and International teachers, but he has also spent just as much time developing his understanding of how the dance works and in learning how - specifically - to teach a dance that does not consist of repeating figures or step sequences. As a result he has developed his own modern teaching style that is based on the fundamental essence of tango - connection, technique, and the two-way dance conversation between leader and follower. Unlike many tango schools and event organisers, the music we dance to is mostly modern or contemporary. Sometimes we play current music that has been specifically written for tango, but we also dance to blues, jazz, electro, alternative, or anything else with a suitable pace or flow. Tango is a versatile dance, and it does not require a specific rhythm or strict tempo in the music you use. So if you like a track and would like to try dancing to it then let us know and we will give it a try.
